Chevrolet Tire Pressure for the Equinox

The Chevy Equinox generally needs a tire pressure of 30 to 35 pounds per square inch (psi) of air. However, some top-tier trims on more modern versions of this SUV could need up to 38 psi. We recommend looking at your owner’s manual or the permanent label attached to the driver’s door frame for the right Chevy tire pressure figure for your exact model.

Recommended Chevrolet Tire Pressure for the Cruze

The Chevy Cruze has been a great sedan for families in Westfield. For model years 2011 to 2022, the Cruze needs a tire pressure of 30 to 35 psi, in general. It’s about the same as the Equinox because the Equinox is a compact SUV versus a larger one.

Chevrolet Tire Pressure for the Malibu

Look for the Chevy Malibu to get around 35 psi, but your results could swing from 26 to 39 psi depending on the model year and trim. The range changes a lot because the car has changed weight through the generations. In 2002, the Chevy Malibu was “just” 3,053 pounds. By 2013, it added almost a quarter ton at 3,532 pounds. The 2023 model is 3,159 pounds. Again, read your owner’s manual for more details.

Recommended Chevrolet Tire Pressure for the Bolt

The Chevy Bolt usually needs a tire pressure of 38 psi. Electric vehicles typically weigh more than similar-sized gasoline-only models. A Chevy Bolt EV weighs around 3,600 pounds. By comparison, the Equinox weighs between 3,274 to 3,512 pounds as an SUV. So, the Bolt needs higher tire pressure on all four treads.

How to Reset the Chevrolet Tire Pressure Sensor

Next, we’ll show you how to reset the Chevrolet tire pressure sensor. You’ll need to do this after you see the tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) light come on, and you inflate the tire to the proper level. The Chevy tire pressure sensor is a standard feature for all four tires.

There are a few methods to do this:

  • Drive at or above 50 mph for 10 minutes on the highway to reset the Chevy tire pressure sensor. The TPMS light should go off at this point.
  • Before you start your vehicle, turn the key to the “On” position. When the TPMS comes on, hold the TPMS reset button, which is usually under the steering wheel. Watch it flash three times. Start your vehicle. Wait about 20 minutes to allow the sensor to reset. 
  • Inflate all tires to 3 PSI over their recommended amount. Then, deflate them completely. Re-inflate them to the right pressure. Do this one tire at a time to reset the Chevy tire pressure sensor.
  • Disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench when your vehicle is off. Turn the car on and honk the horn for about three seconds to discharge any remaining power still in the system. Reconnect the battery. You’ll have to reset your infotainment system when you do this.
